Psychology is a broad field and complements several majors, including health science, criminal justice, social work, business, and education. It is also a practical field and highly valued by potential employers because it provides students (potential employees) with the ability to find needed information (research skills), the ability to think critically Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ different options (critical thinking skills), and the ability to consider differing perspectives (diversity skills).

Psychology Minor Requirements

  • 18 credits required for minor completion
  • Students should meet with their academic advisor each semester and use to monitor their individual progress toward completion of the minor.

Minor Requirements

The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Psychology Department follows the American Psychological Association’s recommended learning goals. Our minors will be introduced to the field of psychology as a science and be able to further explore areas of interest.

Upon successful completion of this program, minors will be able to:

  • Knowledge of Psychology: Recognize major subfields of psychology and examples of their research conclusions.
  • Scientific Inquiry and Critical Thinking: Recognize the characteristics of psychology that make it a science (empiricism and reliance on the scientific method).
  • Ethical and Social Responsibility: Identify cultural norms and stereotypes that may influence students’ interactions with others.
